Stranahan Stories: Moving History with Sandy Casteel

Sandy Casteel has been a major player in the community, spearheading numerous projects relating to historical restorations and preservations. She has been both a resident and community leader in Fort Lauderdale for over 50 years and is currently a member of the Bonnet House Alliance and the Stranahan House Museum Board.  In the early 1970s, she chaired the moving of the King-Cromartie House with the Junior League. Her presentation will be a firsthand account of the hard work and perseverance that went into moving the King-Cromartie House down the New River. All attendees can enjoy 2-for-1 guided tours that day. Tours are at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch and come learn! Florida Grand Opera’s 75th Season Preview
In celebration of FGO’s 75th continuous year of bringing the finest opera to South Florida, a season has been designed with something for everyone. Each of the operas will resonate with a variety of communities. The season will feature the traditional period productions and begin with an audience favorite, “Carmen” (Dec. 1 & Dec. 3, 2016). Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” (Feb. 9 & Feb. 11, 2017), presents a tale of universal human truths, and returns to the Broward Center’s stages after a 17-year absence. Culminating the 2016–2017 season will be Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd” (May 11 & May 13, 2017) which is designed to welcome the Broadway audience to a production which no one should miss.
